David Carroll & His Orchestra
DANCE AND STAY YOUNG, THE FEATHERY FEELING & PERCUSSION IN HI-FI

David Carroll was one of America's most gifted and successful arranger-composer-conductors in the light music field, and the three albums compiled here offer ample proof of this statement. Elegance, charm and grace are words that best describe Carroll's musical approach, and these qualities are much in evidence on Dance and Stay Young (1957) in which his orchestra performs immaculate renditions of numbers such as Don't Get Around Much Anymore, I Can Dream, Can't I?, Lullaby of Broadway and Love Letters in the Sand. The themes of elegance and grace are continued in The Feathery Feeling (1957), which, as its title implies, features music performed in a manner that is light as a feather'. Titles include Dinner at Eight, Swingin' Sweethearts, Fascination and A Beautiful Lady in Blue. 1956's Percussion in Hi-Fi is a departure in that percussion instruments, as opposed to strings, are the focus of attention. But Carroll's good taste shines through and he even manages to make percussion sound melodic and refined, with titles including Malaguea, Bali Ha'i, Jungle Drums and others.
