Probably one of the most gorgeous renditions of Ravel's tone poem I've ever had the pleasure of 'experiencing.' Pierre Boulez's exquisite conducting, the Columbia engineers discrete sonic rendering and the forces of the New York Philharmonic deliver a performance for the ages. Dutton Epoch's remastering is flawless. Very Highly Recommended!

I have owned this recording since first buying it on CBS SQ quadraphonic LP, many years ago. Boulez whips the New York Philharmonic right to the edge of their considerable virtuosity, into a phenomenal white heat!!! The choral singing is as sensual and warm as the ballet needs, but the whole performance will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Also, the entire orchestration sounds brilliantly, top to bottom, unlike some other famous recordings of this Ravel ballet. Most important, the final dance is played at an incredible white heat. DO NOT MISS HEARING THIS PERFORMANCE. Yes, the Stravinsky sharing this disc is also beautiful, but the RAVEL IS A TREASURE FOR THE AGES!!!
