Homage has had a previous recording and this surpasses that, but the real treat here is the shorter Sweeney Todd which has only previously been available in the form of a shorter suite, excellently arranged by David Ellis. For me, this is the best of Arnold's ballets; they all show his outstanding orchestration and gift of melody but this one comprises a number of real 'earworms' and Arnold's impish sense of humour. There is a real old time music hall feeling to the piece which matches the penny dreadful nature of the story. There are some wonderful leitmotifs for the characters, and that for the policemen is particularly memorable and reminiscent of Arnold's own St Trinian's scores. Although the original choreography is lost, some enterprising company looking to present a double bill of shorter ballets could do far worse than bring this delight back to the stage.

As always with Dutton, the technical quality of the recording is outstanding.
