Decca stalwart Frank Chacksfield puts in another appearance on Vocalion with this, his beautiful 1968 Decca album concentrating on the music of Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg, both of whom found lasting fame with their music for light operas/operetta. Chacksfield's finesse and arranging skills are given the perfect opportunity to shine in this kind of material, with the graceful melodic lines of A Kiss in the Dark, I'm Falling in Love with Someone, Kiss Me Again, Lover Come Back to Me and One Alone sounding more enchanting than ever when performed in Chacksfield's orchestral settings. As an added bonus, this release features four more evergreens from the pens of composers such as Ray Noble (The Touch of Your Lips) and Lerner & Loewe (Wouldn't it Be Loverly?), all of course dressed up in beautiful Chacksfield orchestral arrangements.
