What do you get when you add two of the greatest American drummers of all time to two of the greatest British drummers of all time? This Vocalion CD reissue! Recorded in an electrifying concert at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on 5 December 1971, the ‘Conversations’ album – issued on EMI’s Parlophone label in 1972 – captures the drumnastics of Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson and Kenny Clare driving along the Bobby Lamb-Ray Premru big band. The highlight undoubtedly is Bobby Lamb’s specially composed Conversations with B.L.K., a spectacular showcase for the combined brilliance of Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson and Kenny Clare. ‘Repercussion’ (1967), issued in EMI’s Studio 2 Stereo series, throws the spotlight on Eric Delaney and Louie Bellson, who power their way through a programme of twelve tunes that includes superb arrangements of numbers not normally associated with jazz including 633 Squadron, Scotland the Brave and The British Grenadiers alongside Benny Golson’s Blues March and Louie Bellson’s signature tune Skin Deep.
Remastered from the original stereo analogue tapes.
